It took everything I had to write this because I don't really have anyone I can vent to. My girlfriend or her friends would probably see anything I post, and I don't want this turning into more drama than it already is.
We've been together for almost a year.
Before she went away on a three-week trip, everything between us was great.
But ever since she came back...
She's been different.
She barely communicates with me.
She gets irritated over the smallest things.
Sometimes she'll go hours without saying a word to me even though we're in the same room.
Even our intimacy has changed.
Last night I tried to kiss her, and she kept her lips closed.
I figured maybe it was just bad timing, so I tried again later.
Same thing.
I've tried talking to her about what's going on, but every conversation somehow turns into an argument, or she says something that frustrates me so much that I eventually give up.
A little while ago I found her crying alone in the bathroom.
I went in to comfort her and brought her back to the bedroom.
She stopped crying...
But she still wouldn't tell me what was wrong.
She wouldn't talk to me at all.
I love her so much, but I feel completely shut out.
I honestly don't know what's happening anymore.
After speaking with a close family friend who works in mental health, I started looking at the situation a little differently. They explained that major family problems, prolonged stress, anxiety, or emotional burnout can sometimes cause people to withdraw from the people they love the most, even when the relationship itself isn't the source of the problem. They also reminded me that while patience and support are important, honest communication is equally important because no relationship can thrive when one person is left guessing what the other is feeling. That conversation encouraged me to keep approaching her with compassion instead of immediately assuming the worst.
Update 1
I finally managed to ask her directly if something happened while she was away.
She assured me nothing happened on the trip.
I still feel like she's blocking me out emotionally, but I'm going to keep trying to talk to her.
Also...
I wasn't expecting so many responses.
Thank you to everyone who reached out and offered advice.
I'll update again once we figure things out.
Update 2
Sorry this took longer than expected.
Work has been hectic, and I've also been helping with my brother's upcoming wedding.
Over the last two weeks, my girlfriend and I have had several long, honest conversations.
She explained that nothing happened during her trip.
She wasn't harassed, and although several guys approached her, she never entertained any of them.
The real issue had nothing to do with the vacation.
While she was away, things at home started falling apart.
Her parents' marriage is in a terrible place.
Her mother is seriously considering leaving because she's become deeply unhappy and lonely.
On top of that, work at her radio station has become incredibly stressful.
Then she admitted something I never expected.
While she was away for those three weeks, she became terrified that I might be cheating on her.
She also confessed that she was scared I'd eventually become like her father.
Hearing everything she'd been carrying around emotionally helped me understand why she'd been pulling away from me.
For the first time, her behavior made sense.
We've talked through everything honestly.
We've both promised to be completely open with each other going forward.
Things have genuinely been much better these last few days.
She's opening up again.
I've promised to support her however I can.
For the first time in weeks...
I finally feel hopeful.
And once again...
Thank you to everyone who took the time to comment, send messages, and offer advice.
It honestly meant more than you know.
