I Caught My Girlfriend Pooping in My Shower... and She Says It's Normal

I've been a longtime lurker but this is my first post. Using a throwaway because I definitely don't want this tied to my main account.

I (22F) have been dating my girlfriend (21F) for about three months, and until now everything has been going really well.

The only thing I'd really noticed before this was that she's pretty messy. She tends to leave trash lying around and doesn't always clean up after herself, but nothing I considered relationship-ending.

Then last night happened.

We went out to karaoke, got completely drunk, and at one point she accidentally spilled her drink all over both of us.

No big deal.

We went back to my apartment to shower off.

Nothing romantic was happening—we were both way too intoxicated for that.

While we were showering, I happened to look down and noticed a brown streak on the shower floor.

I asked,

"Uh... what's that?"

Without missing a beat she casually said,

"Oopsie, I did a poopsy."

Then she used her toe to push a ball of poop toward the shower drain.

I just stood there in complete disbelief.

I genuinely had no idea how to respond.

I figured we were both drunk, so I decided not to make a scene and thought we'd talk about it the next day.

The next morning I brought it up.

I tried to keep the conversation light at first.

I laughed awkwardly and joked that maybe next time she should use the toilet instead.

Instead of looking embarrassed...

She calmly explained that she's just comfortable around me now and doesn't feel like she has to hide who she really is anymore.

I asked if this had just been a one-time drunken accident.

She said...

No.

She regularly poops in the shower.

I honestly didn't know what to say after hearing that. Later that day I started reading about basic household hygiene because I couldn't stop wondering whether I was overreacting. Everything I found emphasized that human waste can contain bacteria and other microorganisms that are meant to be disposed of through a toilet connected to a proper sewage system, not washed through a shower drain designed for soap and wastewater. That made me realize my discomfort wasn't simply about finding the situation unpleasant—it was also about cleanliness, sanitation, and having different expectations about hygiene inside a shared home.

I asked if she'd at least agree not to do it in my shower anymore.

She immediately said yes.

She didn't argue.

But honestly...

I don't think I can get past it.

I can't stop replaying the image in my head.

It's not only that it happened.

It's the fact that she genuinely seemed to believe it was completely normal and didn't appear embarrassed or surprised by my reaction at all.

Now every time I think about my bathroom...

Or even being intimate with her...

That moment immediately pops back into my mind.

We've only been dating for three months.

And I'm honestly wondering whether this is a deal-breaker for me.

Am I overreacting for seriously considering ending the relationship over this?
