AITA for watching movies alone because my wife ruins the experience?

Let me preface this with, I love my wife, I love my daughter. However, I do not love watching a movie with them. Movies should be watched in the dark, with a big bowl of popcorn, and minimal to 0 talking.

My wife insists on having the lights on full blast, not even dimmed, but bright as noon. Then she enjoys chatting, and then asking 15 minutes later what's going on in the movie. Or when I'm doing my annual Vincent Price marathon in October, call them st****_d old movies. The biggest cardinal sin are the distractions, "hey can you get me some milk?" "run to the kitchen and get me a snack" etc.

I watch a movie that's what I'm doing, I'm watching a movie. No phones, no laptops, no tablets. All the while paying attention to the movie and not 15 other things.

When i watch a movie that's what I'm doing, I'm watching a movie.

So if there's a movie I want to see and I know she won't be interested I wait for her to go to bed then make some popcorn and watch a good movie, by myself with no distractions.

I watch a movie that's what I'm doing, I'm watching a movie.

After I type this and hit post I'm making some popcorn and watching the new Knives Out movie. I'll see your replies in a couple hours.

🏠 The Aftermath

After making the decision to watch movies alone, the peace and focus during movie nights have improved significantly.

I get to enjoy movies undisturbed, with no interruptions or distractions, creating a more immersive experience.

This has led to a more enjoyable movie-watching experience for me, without the frustration of constant disruptions.

Sometimes solitude is the best companion for a movie night.

While it's great to have personal movie time, I also acknowledge the importance of compromising and spending quality time together.

💭 Emotional Reflection

In reflecting on this situation, it's clear that communication and understanding each other's preferences are essential in maintaining harmony.

While enjoying movies alone has its merits, finding a middle ground where both parties can appreciate the movie-watching experience together is crucial.

It's important to navigate differences in preferences and activities to ensure a balanced and fulfilling relationship.
