I (30sF) gave birth to our son a few days ago. It was incredibly traumatic. I had a severe postpartum haemorrhage, lost 1.8 litres of blood, and had emergency surgery to remove my placenta. I’m still recovering.
After giving birth to a son and facing serious medical complications, OP felt neglected by her husband during his paternity leave.
OP explained that her husband prioritized spending time with his older son, leaving her to handle their critically ill newborn mostly alone.
"I was saying I needed him to be a husband to me and a father to our newborn during what was a medical emergency."
Despite expressing her need for support and attention, OP felt her husband continued to prioritize his older son over their newborn's health crisis.
"Paternity leave isn’t supposed to be a holiday and that I don’t feel supported."
Feeling overwhelmed and neglected, OP confronted her husband about his lack of involvement and prioritization during a crucial time for their family.
🏠 The Aftermath
Following the confrontation, OP's husband seemed defensive and justified his actions by claiming to balance time between both children.
OP continued to handle the care of their newborn in the NICU while feeling unsupported and overwhelmed.
The consequent strain on their relationship and family dynamic was evident as OP struggled to find the support she needed during a critical period.
"If this is what his paternity leave looks like, I’d almost rather he went back to work because at least then I’d understand why I was doing everything alone."
While navigating the challenges of a newborn's health crisis, OP found herself grappling with feelings of isolation and neglect.
