My company had a raffle at our annual meeting. Everyone who attended was automatically entered, and the grand prize was an extra week of paid vacation. It was approved by HR and could be used any time before the end of the year, and I ended up winning.
I've been saving for a solo trip overseas for almost two years. I already had one week of PTO approved, so the extra week would let me extend the trip instead of rushing through it.
The day after the raffle, one of my coworkers congratulated me and then asked if I'd consider giving him the extra week. He has three kids, and his family hasn't taken a proper vacation in years because of money and scheduling. I told him I was sorry, because of course I was planning to use it myself.

"The whole point of a raffle is that it's random."
Now there are two camps in the office. Some people think it's my prize and I shouldn't feel guilty for using it however I want. Others think I'm being selfish because I have no dependents and my coworker would make "better use" of it.
